Egerton University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kibwage, on Tuesday, 31 May 2022, presided over the swearing-in of newly elected Egerton University Student Association (EUSA) officials at Main Campus in Njoro.
The University's Legal Officer Janet Bii administered the oath of office in the presence of the University Management Board, staff, and students. EUSA officials sworn in comprised of seven (7) members of the Student Governing Council (SGC), eleven (11) Faculty Congress positions and sixteen (16) Halls Congresses officials.
Speaking during the swearing-in event, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kibwage commended all those who participated in the elections, from the students contesting to the election commission chaired by the Dean Faculty of Science, Dr Moses Gichuki. Prof. Kibwage promised to work with the leaders to ensure the University delivered on its vision of a world class university for the advancement of humanity.
He called upon the student leadership to concentrate on the student fraternity's needs and embrace dialogue while articulating their issues to the University management. "As you fulfil your mandate as leaders, please note that you are serving as the bridge between the student fraternity and the management," said VC Prof. Kibwage.
He underscored the importance of embracing dialogue and consultations in dealing with issues affecting the students. He further urged the student leadership to take their role as Egerton University brand ambassadors seriously. "We have had some low moments in the past, which affected our public image. As our brand ambassadors, go out and preach the good name of the University," added Prof. Kibwage.
Present during the swearing-in were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) Prof. Bernard Aduda, acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Planning & Development) Prof. Richard Mulwa, acting Director Research & Extension Prof. Nancy Mungai, Finance Officer Moses Ouma, the acting Registrar Human Capital Administration Stella Kereto and the Dean of Students Prof. Dolphine Odero-Wanga.
