Nakuru medics agree to work with FOLLAP to strengthen access to justice

A section of medical professionals in Nakuru county have agreed to work closely with the Faculty of Law Legal Aid Project (FOLLAP) in helping survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) to access justice.

In a forum held on Tuesday October 19 at the Nakuru Town Campus College (NTCC), the professionals agreed to ensure that they manage SGBV evidence well in order to promote access to justice.

Led by Grace Omolo of the Nakuru gender violence recovery center, the medics asked FOLLAP to strengthen networks for all the stakeholders in the county countering SGBV.

They also asked FOLLAP to establish a working technical committee on SGBV as well as continuously raise awareness on the issue.

The forum which was held for half a day was attended by close to 20 medical professionals, mainly nurses, from the Nakuru Level Five Hospital and other medical facilities in Nakuru.

During the forum, FOLLAP’s team leader Dr. Ruth Aura said, the professionals play a critical role of evidence collection for SGBV cases.

NTCC’s Principal Prof. Joshua Ogendo who also spoke at the forum said Egerton University will continue maintaining high academic standards and urged the professionals to consider it as their higher learning institution of choice either for themselves or their relatives.
